Our Mission
Maui has a new choral group – The Olinda Chorale! This 16-voice choral ensemble is dedicated to the exploration and performance of a wide range of musical styles, from early to modern music, classical to jazz. Our objective is to foster fine vocal skills in a small choral ensemble experience, and it is our hopes to inspire and entertain our audiences, and grow an appreciation of superior choral singing here on Maui.
Our History
The seeds of The Olinda Chorale were planted when a group of Maui singers from all parts of our community gathered to honor Liz Janes-Brown in Memorial with a performance of John Rutter’s Requiem, conducted by Sarah Oppenheim-Beggs. Through that experience, the idea to create a small choral ensemble from those singers was born.
In our first concert, The Olinda Chorale presented a compelling performance of All Copland - The Music of Aaron Copland. In a complete change of pace, our next concert was a spotlight on the music of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin in Jazz, Be-bop and Swing! Since then, The Chorale has continued both in solo and collaborative concerts performing original music, as in the the Memorial for Pat Green, and Christmas concerts at the Iao Theater, participating in Maui's Lei of Stars Choral Festival 2010, and is presently continuing in the Jazz Doo-wop and Pop genre, with vocal arrangements of Motown, Beatles and George Shearing.
Our Non-Profit Status
The Olinda Chorale operates under the auspices of parent company Maui Civic Light Opera (MCLO) and Musical Voices Maui (MVM), a non-profit organization which has as its mission the development of musicianship and vocal skills. Therefore, your much-appreciated gift is fully tax-deductible.
Thank you for supporting the choral arts on Maui. We deeply appreciate your kind generosity.
